Boeing Hosts Students at Career Expo

On Wednesday, May 21, Boeing Commercial Airplanes hosted its first ever Career Expo for Floridian high school and college students at its Miami Flight Services Training Center. Approximately seventy students gathered at the training center early in the morning to tour various flight training devices and Level D Flight Simulators.

In a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) Initiave, Boeing invited students to explore various aspects of the aviation industry, from piloting, instructing, and maintenance, to design. Students were even able to tour and participate in an interactive Boeing 787 training suite.

“The goal is for this to be an annual gathering, and perhaps host even more career opportunities throughout the year to inspire the next generation of aviation professionals,” said Stephanie Miller, Flight Services Communications Director in Miami with Boeing.

All of the students were able to simulate a flight in the 737 Next Generation Flight Training Device (FTD) and were able to move switches and see how the airplane was affected by their actions. Students also listened to a panel of Boeing employees about various careers in the aviation industry and were able to hear from technical officials and a Boeing 787 Dreamliner pilot and instructor.

Miami Mayor Carlos Gimenez also spoke at the event to encourage the students and wish them well before they began their day. Miami is the airline flight training capital of the world, and Miami International Airport is the gateway to South America as Mayor Gimenez pointed out. The current generation of students is well poised to become the next generation of aviation professionals in Miami’s changing global aviation economy.
