Air New Zealand announced an order for fourteen Airbus A320 family aircraft on Sunday, from the IATA conference in Doha, Qatar.
The order, worth $1.5 billion at list prices, is split between three A321neo, ten A320neo, and one A320ceo. The carrier has not, as of yet, chosen the airplane’s powerplant. The ceo aircraft is expected to be delivered next year, while the neo aircraft are expected to arrive in 2017.
The airplanes will be used to replace the carrier’s current Airbus-based short-haul fleet. The airline switched over in 2009, when it ordered fourteen A320 airplanes to replace its aging Boeing 737-300 aircraft.
Separately, also in Doha, the carrier reports that it expects to receive its first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner in mid-July. The carrier has ten of the Boeing long-haul jets on order, which ANZ expects to begin operating on October 15, between Auckland and Perth. Its first aircraft began flight testing last Wednesday.
